چکیده

Catheter directed thrombolysis (CDT) has been approved by national institute of clinical excellence (NICE) in June, 2012 according to certain criteria for proximal and extensive deep venous thrombosis (DVT). This procedure entitles medical thrombolysis in addition to endovascular thrombectomy which would help in prevention of long-term consequences of post thrombotic syndrome. The introduction of this procedure must be preceded by CT angiogram to rule out intra-abdominal pathology or aberrant anatomical disorders. We are here presenting two potential cases whom we attempted CDT but were found to have rare anatomical variants of their venous system. (This page in not part of the published article.) Successful Treatment of a Catheter-Induced Superior Vena Cava Syndrome through Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis: A Case Report

Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is a medical condition resulting from the obstruction of the blood flow through the large central veins. Recently, central venous catheters have been reported as the increasingly common cause of this syndrome. We describe a 56-year-old woman with previous history of metastatic colon cancer, who had recently undergone central venous catheter insertion for her se...

Extensive venous thrombosis of the upper extremity in a diabetic patient with a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state

We report a case of extensive venous thrombosis of the upper extremity in a patient with a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS). Thrombosis of the upper extremities is generally found in 4% of cases with deep venous thrombosis. Extensive, symptomatic venous thrombosis of the upper extremity, as seen in this patient, is rare except with catheter-related thrombosis. Recent studies have supporte...

Successful Catheter-Directed Venous Thrombolysis in an Ankylosing Spondylitis Patient with Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory rheumatic disease. Phlegmasia cerulea dolens is a severe form of deep vein thrombosis characterized by swelling, pain, and bluish discoloration. Treatment delay may cause venous gangrene, tissue ischemia, limb loss or death. Here, we present an AS case who presented with phlegmasia cerulea dolens and treated by catheter-directed thrombolysis.

Results of catheter-directed thrombolysis for acute ilio-femoral deep venous thrombosis – A retrospective cohort study

Background Catheter-directed thrombolysis may prevent post-thrombotic syndrome in patients with ilio-femoral deep venous thrombosis. We performed a retrospective review of prospectively collected follow-up data to evaluate the results of catheter-directed thrombolysis at our institution. Method Patients admitted for venous thrombolysis were included in the study and their files screened for i...

Catheter-directed thrombolysis in management of postpartum lower limb deep venous thrombosis - A case series.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a major health problem in pregnancy and postpartum period. Catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) is safe and effective in the management of symptomatic DVT. Value of CDT in postpartum DVT is not fully evaluated. We describe five patients presenting with acute iliofemoral DVT in their early postpartum period who were treated with mechanical thromboaspiration and CDT....
